About Us

The Department of Business provides leadership and coordination across Government departments and Crown agencies to promote business development and good business relations.

We are responsible for four lines of business relevant to our mandate:

  • Business attraction
  • Marketing
  • Advisory responsibility related to business support
  • Regulatory environment reform

Business Attraction
The Business Attraction Division proactively promotes the competitive and comparative advantages of the province in target markets for the purpose of attracting provincial, other jurisdictional, and foreign direct investment. This includes investments in start-up or expansion activities by investors external to the province.

Marketing and Brand
The Marketing Division leads the province in the development of a brand identity along with the execution of its brand strategy. The division is also responsible for the development and implementation of a marketing strategy for the purposes of business attraction.

Advisory responsibility related to business support
This line of business encompasses overseeing the implementation of the provincial investment attraction strategy. It provides leadership and advice to optimize long-term business growth and investment in the province (i.e. Business Tax Incentive Review). And it identifies gaps in such areas as industry supply chains and infrastructure.

Regulatory environment reform
The Department of Business is the lead administrator for the Red Tape Reduction Initiative. That means the Department of Business has responsibility to:

  • provide clearly defined guidelines and reporting templates to Departments across Government.
  • provide support and advice to departments, agencies, boards and commissions.
  • ensure that recommendations and strategic plans result in government-wide targeted reductions.
  • produce internal and external reports that inform on the initiative and achievements.
