Education

  • Memorial University, the largest university on Canada's east coast, has more than 17,000 full and part-time students enrolled and grants degrees annually in disciplines such as Information Technology, Engineering and Computer Science.
  • Memorial University is part of The Atlantic Computational Excellence Network (ACEnet), a pan-Atlantic network of world-class, High Performance Computing (HPC) Clusters which offers researchers in the Atlantic Provinces instant access to data and ultra high speed computing.
  • College of the North Atlantic, one of the largest post-secondary educational and skills training centres in Atlantic Canada, has 17 campus locations throughout the province and one in the Middle East State of Qatar. It grants diplomas annually in fields such as Information Technology, Engineering Technology and Information Systems Management.
  • The province is home to 24, highly-regulated private career colleges.
  • Universities and colleges partner with the private sector to provide customized training. For example, when Other Ocean Interactive Inc., a California-based video game development company, opened a new studio in St. John's, College of the North Atlantic added Video Game Design program to its IT program.
  • The Newfoundland and Labrador Research and Development Council (RDC) is a new Crown entity created to enhance the province's research and development capacity.

 

Infrastructure

  • One of the most advanced communications networks in Canada with four facilities-based telecommunications carriers and a comprehensive range of complete network and carrier redundant fibre-optic based services.
  • The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries (NATI) represents a dynamic network of more than 200 technology companies with global reach and specialized expertise.
